The results have just been announced for the GB Cup, a national event that is open to all of the 1,000 or so clubs that are affiliated to the PAGB (Photographic Alliance of Great Britain). SPS entered this year and, of the 120 clubs who took part, we came 62nd with a score of 135. This is really quite an achievement for such a small club so well done to all concerned. We were up against the top clubs in the UK, many of whom have 200 members and long waiting lists! All club members had the opportunity to enter and we submitted 32 images, from 9 different photographers. The scoring was carried out by 3 judges, each giving a score out of 5, so the maximum possible score for an image is 15 (these are very rare!). Each club’s 12 highest scoring images were counted. Particular congratulations to Chris Dawson who scored our only 13 (meaning at least one of the judges gave it 5/5) and to Jack Taylor and Anna-Marie Armstrong who scored 12s (two in Jack’s case). Six of our entries scored 11/15, from Chris Dawson (2), Colin Mitchell (2), Jack Taylor, and Kevin Smoker. There was also a separate Nature category in which we submitted 28 images, from 7 members. We didn’t do quite so well in this, scoring 120 and coming 74th out of 104 clubs who entered – still pretty good though. Four of our entries scored 11/15, One by Janice Hewitt and three by Chris Dawson.
Club member Charlie Verrall has created an interesting article covering his seventy years as a photographer. You can read the article by clicking on the tab above.
The programme for the remainder of the season has now been updated again. All remaining meetings will be on-line via zoom so the Print League competitions, which were due to start in March, have been converted to a second PDI League. Any images can be entered into this as long as they were not entered into the first PDI League.
Anyone who is interested in joining the club is welcome to try one of our meetings first. Just contact the club secretary using the Contact link below and we will send you a membership form and zoom meeting invite. We are currently offering a discounted membership fee for the remainder of this season.
